Just managed to squeeze out of work for 5 days to have a quick break down in Gisborne and the Hawkes Bay. Nice to get out of the kitchen and see some sunshine for a change. And it was a perfect time to visit the Vineyards down there, did a bit of driving and managed to get out to Craggy Range which has amazing Architecture'd buildings and a great restaurant, a great wine tasting coming away with some nice Noble Reisling and a few others.
Then on to Te Mata Vineyard, again some great wines, I really love this part of the country with all these vineyards around, The wines at Te Mata are wonderful, award winning, got a few to cellar for a few years and put away to mature.
Made a quick stop in Napier which has a great cafe scene, next year will stop for longer for sure.
Back in Gisborne where we were staying the Vineyard Kew proved to be a great stop, small but super friendly service, and at Milltons Vineyard where you must try there Muscats@Dawn 2009.
For me my favourite stop was Bushmere, a great tasting, even provided some small food bites to go with each wine, the Oaked Classic Chardonnay from here is great, and the merlot a great hit with Chocolate. We sat and had a late lunch here among the vines, with a great platter with bread, true value for money, amazing produce, with the late afternoon sun hanging in the air, was the highlight of the holiday. so relaxing.
I love Craggy Range, delicious wine and bread.. Enjoy
